The Drum Hub brings together what you need to understand a groove and play it straight away: the 16-step pattern, the tempo range, what the hands and feet actually do, and the drummer who set the gesture. Everything plays inside a drum machine you can edit cell by cell.
The drum machine, 16 steps and nine kits
Each pattern is one bar of four beats cut into sixteenth notes: sixteen cells, one per step, for kick, snare, clap, hi-hat, ride and crash. Nine kits are available — four synthesised on the fly and five real sampled machines: Roland TR-808, LinnDrum LM-2, CR-8000, MFB-512 and Casio RZ-1.

From rock to blast beat, by way of one drop, bossa nova, boom bap and salsa: every groove gives its tempo range, its feel, where to start and the classic trap. The patterns are never copied by hand — they are exactly what the sequencer plays.

Frequently asked questions
How do you play a drum groove as a beginner?
Start with the hi-hat alone in eighth notes, until it runs without you thinking about it. Add the snare on 2 and 4, then the kick last. The hub shows the pattern step by step and plays it at any tempo, as slowly as you need.
How many drum grooves do you need to know?
There is no official number, but 34 families cover the bulk of what is played in pop, rock, jazz, Latin and electronic music. That is the split used by the hub, backed by its 68 real patterns.
What is a 16-step drum machine?
One bar of four beats cut into sixteenth notes: four cells per beat, sixteen in all, each cell saying whether the instrument hits or stays silent. It is how drum machines have worked since the Roland TR-808 of 1980.
